The Council of Western State Foresters (CWSF) is excited to announce Olivia Oliver as the new Communications Intern for Summer 2026!

Olivia is a rising junior at the University of Oregon, where she is studying Public Relations with minors in Environmental Studies and Science Communication. She is excited to create content that communicates scientific information in a digestible and effective manner. At the University of Oregon, she has put her writing, editing, and content creation skills to work with Align Magazine, designing a monthly newsletter for her sorority, and serving as a member of the PR team for the Be Positive Committee (a foundation that raises money for children with childhood cancer).

Being born and raised in Oregon has instilled in her a deep appreciation for the forests of the West, as well as an understanding of the importance of safeguarding their health and sustainability.

Outside of the internship, you can find Olivia walking her dog on a cool summer evening, swimming at the river with her friends, or cozying up with a good book in hand.

Learn more about Olivia in the Q&A below, and say hello at intern@westernforesters.org

What attracted you to an internship at CWSF?

This internship is the perfect intersection of my passion for writing and interest in environmental systems, specifically forests. As a science communications minor, transforming complex scientific information into content that is both understandable and engaging is a practice that I want to implement into my future roles. This internship will allow me to gain hands-on experience in this sector, with an organization that shares the same values I have in caring for our natural resources.

What are you hoping to gain from your internship?

Overall, I’m hoping to gain professional, hands-on experience in the communication field. I want to strengthen my writing, editing, and content creation skills so they are more elevated and polished for wherever I land next. I also hope to deepen my understanding of forestry and natural resources. Overall, I want to learn how to work in a professional communications environment and expand my knowledge of what that specifically entails.

Describe your connection to forestry and natural resources.

Being born and raised in Portland, Oregon, has afforded me with countless opportunities to experience various forests all across the state. From an emotional standpoint, forests have been a place for me to find refuge in, and find peace and wonder. Additionally, through my environmental studies courses, I understand the importance of forest systems, from environmental regulation to resources. I’m excited to discover new ways to connect to and understand this topic through this internship.
