Cal Mukumoto, a longtime forester and businessman from Coos Bay and a 2020 Democratic candidate for the Oregon legislature, was picked as Oregon's next state forester at a special meeting Friday. 

Mukumoto will head the Oregon Department of Forestry, an agency responsible for fighting wildfires on 16 million acres and managing timber on state lands.
